Chris Barth, born on October 30, 1980, in Indianapolis, Indiana, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He formed The Impossible Shapes in high school, releasing their first album The Great Migration in 2000 after moving to Bloomington, Indiana. In 2003, the band signed with Secretly Canadian and released We Like It Wild, touring with acts like Jens Lekman and Songs: Ohia. They disbanded in July 2009 after releasing three more albums. Barth was also a member of John Wilkes Booze from 2001 to 2006, releasing two albums with Kill Rock Stars. Under his own name and the alias Normanoak, Chris Barth released several solo albums, including Loving Off the Land (2002) and Born A Black Diamond (2004), the latter under the Normanoak moniker.
