Biography

Chise Kanna, born January 14, 1994, is a Japanese singer, known professionally as Wakana. She started her career under the guidance of Horipro Talent Scout Caravan after winning their competition, impressing judges with her powerful vocal range. Originally from Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Kanna's home survived the devastating 2011 Tohoku earthquake, an event that reinforced her desire to pursue music. Before her major break, Kanna balanced her university studies with initial forays into the entertainment industry, driven by her lifelong passion for singing, inspired by the group SPEED during her childhood. After rigorous training and overcoming numerous challenges, including performing street lives with no audience engagement at first, Kanna made her major debut in March 2016 with the single "Hear - Shinjiaeta akashi,"(2016) which was featured as the theme song for the film "Boku dake ga Inai Machi." This debut marked her entry into the industry as a promising new artist with comparisons to Celine Dion. Kanna continued to release music and perform, including a notable appearance at the Munakata Festival, before taking a hiatus in 2017. After a brief pause in her career, Kanna returned to the music scene in 2019 under a new stage name, Wakana, releasing singles and engaging in various music projects.
