Biography

Charles Kullman, born on January 13, 1903 in New Haven, Connecticut, was an American tenor. He began his musical journey at age eight, singing in a church choir, and later studied medicine at Yale University. After graduating in 1924, he pursued music, earning scholarships to study at the Juilliard School and the American University of Fontainebleau. Kullman's professional debut came with Vladimir Rosing’s American Opera Company. He made his European debut at the Kroll Theater in Berlin in 1931 and became a favorite at the Berlin Staatsoper. His international career included performances at the Royal Opera House in London (1934), the Festival of Salzburg (1935), and the Metropolitan Opera in New York (1935). He passed away on February 8, 1983.
