Cero39 is the alter ego of Colombian producer Mauricio Ãlvarez (a.k.a. Fredo), whose project emerged in 2012 after years of absorbing Caribbean sounds during travels through Barranquilla and along the Magdalena River. His debut album Móntate en el Viaje! (2012) fused cumbia, dembow, reggae-dub, and experimental electronics in a style critics described as "Monster Cumbia" or "Cyborg Tropical Bass". He followed it with the EP Vaciles Casuales (2013), exploring minimalist, atmospheric textures, and in 2016 released Moni Moni, a richly layered record that earned acclaim and placement on top-album lists. Between 2017 and 2019, he issued EPs like Mis Tierras Calientes and Live Masters, plus notable remixes and collaborations with artists such as Dengue Dengue Dengue!, Toy Selectah, Mediopicky, Mula, BuendÃa, and Japanese duo Hifana, further expanding his border-crossing sound. His 2019 album 6 refined his palette across Latintronica and alternative dance, while in 2024 he issued two full-length recordsâRâAâBâIâA and Caseritasâfeaturing standout tracks like âCarÃ,â âSiempre,â âTe Beo Vien,â âEn Popa,â and âMar 15â¯Km.â In April 2025, he released the single âEl Barroso Pineano,â which continues to showcase his immersive blend of tropical rhythms, glitchy beats, and electronic warmth.
