Biography

Carl William Stalling, born on November 10, 1891, in Lexington, Missouri, was an American film composer known for his work in animated films. He began playing the piano at age six and later became a professional pianist in Kansas City. Carl William Stalling's collaboration with Walt Disney started when he was approached by the latter after his job playing musical accompaniment for silent films. Stalling composed the soundtracks for early Disney shorts like "Plane Crazy" and "The Gallopin’ Gaucho", and moved to New York in 1928 to work on "Steamboat Willie". Carl William Stalling developed a system that synchronized music with animation, known as "Mickey-Mousing." He left Disney in 1930 and joined Warner Bros. in 1936, composing over 700 scores for Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. Notable works include "Porky's Poultry Plant" and "A Corny Concerto". Carl William Stalling’s final work was the 1958 cartoon "To Itch His Own". He passed away on November 29, 1972.
