His breakthrough came when he won the Best Newcomer Award at the Second Asia Television Awards in 1997, becoming the youngest recipient. Throughout his childhood, Cao Jun starred in several notable works including Lotus Child Nezha (1999), Nine-Year-Old County Magistrate (2001), and Treasure Lamp (2005) where he played "Cheng Xiang," achieving a peak viewership rating of 9.1%. After taking a hiatus from acting to focus on his studies at Shanghai Visual Arts Academy, Cao Jun returned to the screen in supporting roles such as in Forest Sea Snowfield (2015).
