Candice Rickelle Glover, born Novemberâ¯22â¯1989 in Beaufort, Southâ¯Carolina, is an American contemporary R&B and soul singer who first gained national attention as the winner of the twelfth season of American Idol in Mayâ¯2013. After three previous auditions, her breakthrough came when she delivered a standout performance of "Syrup & Honey" during the live shows, earning praise from judges and the public. Following her victory, she released her debut single "I Am Beautiful" on Juneâ¯3â¯2013, which peaked at Number ThirtyâThree on the Hot R&B/HipâHop Songs chart and at Number NinetyâThree on the Billboard Hotâ¯100. Her debut studio album, Music Speaks, was issued on Februaryâ¯18â¯2014 through 19 and Interscope, featuring the single "Cried" released on Novemberâ¯25â¯2013; the track entered the Adult R&B chart at Number 28 and later peaked at Number 18. Glover embarked on the American Idols LIVE! Tourâ¯2013, performing across the United States. She collaborated with Chadd Black on "Love No Fear" (Februaryâ¯14â¯2015) and announced plans for a mixtape with him in 2016. In Januaryâ¯2016, she departed from 19 Recordings/Interscope to pursue an independent project, expressing intentions to work with artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, Chris Brown, and Drake.
