Biography
Los Canarios was a Spanish soul and rock band formed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1964 around lead singer Teddy Bautista. The group initially performed under the name Los Ãdolos. They changed their name to The Canaries and released their first album Flying High with The Canaries (1967) during a trip to the United States. Upon returning to Spain, they renamed themselves Los Canarios and released singles with soul influences, including "The incredible miss Perryman" (1967) for Carlos Saura's film Peppermint frappé. The band's breakthrough came with the single "Get on Your Knees" (1967), produced by Alain Milhaud. They released the albums Libérate! (1970) and Canarios vivos (1972). In 1973, members of the band departed to form the group Alcatraz. Bautista recruited new members to release the progressive rock album Ciclos (1974) before Los Canarios disbanded in 1974.
