Victoria Busisiwe Mhlongo, known professionally as Busi Mhlongo, was a South African singer-songwriter and producer born on October 28, 1947, in Inanda. She performed in the musical King Kong and formed the ensemble Twasa. In the 1970s, Mhlongo relocated to London and recorded with artists in exile. She performed with Salif Keita in the 1980s. Her debut studio album, Babhemu, appeared in 1993. She joined Hugh Masekela for the Africa '95 festival in London. Her second album, Urban Zulu, appeared in 1999 and reached the Billboard World Music charts. Her discography included the albums Indiza - Voyages Through New Sounds (2000), Freedom (2003), and We Baba Omncane (2009). Mhlongo received three South African Music Awards and a Grammy nomination. She died on June 15, 2010, in Durban.
