Buraka Som Sistema is a Portuguese grime and breakbeat group with Portuguese and Angolan members, known for pioneering a modern fusion of kuduro with dance music. Formed in 2006 by Kalaf Ãngelo Epalanga, João Barbosa (Branko), Rui Pité (Riot), and Andro Carvalho (Conductor), the group first gained attention with the singles "Yah!" and "Wawaba," the latter of which topped the Portuguese charts in 2007. Their debut EP, From Buraka to the World (2006), introduced their "progressive kuduro" sound, while the album Black Diamond (2008) featured the international hit "Sound of Kuduro" with M.I.A. They followed with Komba (2011), led by the single "Hangover (Bababa)," and Buraka (2014). Among Portugal's most internationally recognized music acts of the 2000s and 2010s, the group collaborated with artists worldwide before performing their final concert in Lisbon in 2016 and entering a hiatus.
