Singer and songwriter Bruno Brel was born in Brussels on September 24, 1951. He is the nephew of Jacques Brel, who encouraged him in 1969 to pursue the singer-guitarist career he had begun in 1967, keeping his own name. He performed in a number of Brussels cabarets, and then moved to Paris to perform there. He met Jacques Canetti, the producer of some of the biggest names in French chanson, including his uncle, who signed him for the release of his first two albums, Bruno Brel chante Bruno Brel in 1977 and Bruno Brel N°2 1979. Bruno Brel travels, settles in Canada, writes several novels and short stories, wins a Motocross championship and only releases an album of original songs in 1998 Enfin voilà . Since then, he has slipped into his uncle's repertoire, releasing Moitié Bruno, moitié Brel in 2001, an album that blends the two artists' repertoires. He then performed with Micheline Van Hautem, and in 2009 released an album of covers, L'esprit de Jacques. His latest album, Flammes, was released in 2018. In 2022, he looks back on his original career, which included travels around the world, motocross, music and family, in his autobiography Le neveu de mon oncle.
