Biography

Bret Peter Tarrant McKenzie, born on June 29, 1976, in Wellington, New Zealand, is a musician, songwriter, keyboard player, and actor. He formed the comedy folk duo Flight of the Conchords with Jemaine Clement in 1998, releasing their debut album Folk the World Tour in 2002. The duo gained international recognition through their BBC radio series and HBO television show, which aired from 2007 to 2009. Also a member of the reggae band The Black Seeds from 1998 to 2007, McKenzie's solo career began with his debut album Songs Without Jokes, released in August 2022. He won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Man or Muppet" from the film The Muppets (2011). In 2025, he released his sophomore album, Freak Out City.
