Brenda and the Tabulations were an American R&B group formed in 1966 in Philadelphia. The original lineup included Brenda Payton, Eddie L. Jackson, Maurice Coates, and Jerry Jones. The group was known for its distinctive doo-wop sound, featuring Payton's sweet vocals with background male harmonies. Their first major hit was "Dry Your Eyes," which reached number 20 on the US charts in 1967. The group released their debut album Dry Your Eyes on Dionn Records that same year. In 1971, the lineup changed significantly with the departure of the original male members and the addition of two female backing singers, Pat Mercer and Deborah Martin. This period saw the release of their second major hit "Right On the Tip of My Tongue," which peaked at number 23 in 1971 and was produced by Van McCoy. The group signed with Epic Records in 1972 and released four singles, including "One Girl Too Late," which charted on the soul chart. Brenda Payton continued to release music under the group's name until her death on June 14, 1992, aged 46. Eddie L. Jackson passed away on May 3, 2010, from a brain aneurysm at the age of 63. The group's music experienced a revival in 2011 when "The Wash" from Dry Your Eyes was licensed for an Axe body wash commercial.
