Brave Combo, a polka rock band based in Denton, Texas, was founded in 1979 by guitarist/keyboardist/accordionist Carl Finch. The group's music blends original compositions and covers with various dance styles, primarily polka, but also incorporating Latin American and Caribbean influences such as norteño, salsa, rumba, cha-cha-cha, choro, samba, two-step, cumbia, charanga, merengue, and ska, all performed with a rock/worldbeat energy. Their debut release was the album Music for Squares in 1981. Brave Combo gained significant recognition with their Grammy Award-winning albums Polkasonic (1999) and Let's Kiss (2004), both of which won in the Best Polka Album category. The band has also made notable media appearances, including a cameo on The Simpsons, contributing to the soundtrack for the animated series Click and Clackâs As the Wrench Turns, and performing at various high-profile events such as the MDA Labor Day Telethon with Jerry Lewis.
