Biography
Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernández, known professionally as Bola de Nieve, was born on November 11, 1911, in Guanabacoa, Cuba. He enrolled at the Mateu Conservatory at age eight, and in 1933 Rita Montaner hired him as her accompanist after a performance in Havana. The duo moved to Mexico, where Bola de Nieve gained recognition for his improvisational skills. He returned to Cuba and collaborated with Ernesto Lecuona, performing across Latin America, the United States, Europe, Russia, China, and Korea. Notable collaborations include performances with Conchita Piquer, Teddy Wilson, Lena Horne, Ary Barroso, Dorival Caymmi, Esther Borja, and Libertad Lamarque. Despite health issues, he continued performing until his last concert in August 1971. He passed away on October 2, 1971, in Mexico City.
