Biography

Carmel is as much the name of the singer Carmel McCourt as that of the band she fronted from 1980 with Jim Parris in Manchester (England). Her debut single "Storm ", released in 1982, topped the independent charts and landed her a contract with London Records. Leading a jazz-pop wave with Matt Bianco, Carmel went on to become very popular in France with the song "Sally " (1986). The album The Falling, produced in part by Brian Eno, was also very well received in France. Carmel records the hit "J'oublierai ton nom" with Johnny Hallyday, a testament to her honeymoon with the French public. Everybody's Got a Little...Soul (1987) and Set Me Free (1989) kept Carmel on the musical high ground. Carmel faded from the limelight in the 1990s, devoting most of her time to live performances with Live in Paris (1997) and Live at Ronnie Scott's (1998). In 2011, Carmel released Strictly Piaf, devoted to the great singer's repertoire.
