Biography

Bob Cooper, born Robert Cooper on December 6, 1925 in the United States of America, was a jazz saxophonist known for his work with Stan Kenton's band starting in 1945. He married June Christy, the band's singer, two years later. Cooper is also recognized as one of the first to play jazz solos on oboe. His discography includes The Bob Cooper Sextet (1954), Shifting Winds (1955), and collaborations with artists such as Chet Baker, Maynard Ferguson, and Stan Kenton. His last studio recording was on Karrin Allyson's album Sweet Home Cookin' (1994). Cooper passed away from a heart attack in Los Angeles, California, on August 5, 1993, at the age of 67.
