Biography

British alternative rock trio, Black Foxxes combine influences from the 1990s/2000s such as grunge, post-hardcore and emo, even alternative country. Formed in Exeter in 2013, it then included vocalist and guitarist Mark Holley, bassist Tristan Jane and drummer Anthony Thornton. The line-up, which grew out of several other bands on the local scene, released the critically acclaimed self-produced EP Pines (2014). The trio were then invited by the BBC to perform their tracks, before signing with Search and Destroy Records, a subsidiary of Spinefarm Records. Playing at the Reading and Leeds Festival in between tours, the band presented their debut album I'm Not Well (2016), expanding on their influences, before heading to Iceland to record their successor Reiði (2018). Leader Mark Holley, hailed for both his lyrics and musical inspiration, takes a year to compose material for third album Black Foxxes (2020), which sees Jane and Thornton replaced by Jack Henley on bass and Finn Mclean on drums respectively. The fourth album, The Haar, followed in 2025, with new drummer Jack Barrett.
