Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, an American musical group, was founded in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, in 1980. The band's origins trace back to the breakup of the post-punk group Moving Parts, which included Erik Lindgren and Roger Miller. In late 1980, Miller and Lindgren collaborated on a recording project that led to the formation of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. Their performance was at a record release party in 1981. The band's first EP, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, was released in 1983. In 1984, they released their first full-length album, Magnetic Flip. Miller left the group in 1987 to focus on his Maximum Electric Piano project and was replaced by Steve Adams. Ken Field joined later that year, and this lineup recorded two albums for Cuneiform Records. The band released Extreme Spirituals in 2006, a collection of traditional American gospel songs and spirituals with singer Oral Moses.
