Bill LaBounty (born William LaBounty on Mayâ¯22,â¯1948 in Wisconsin) is an American singerâsongwriter and keyboardist whose career began in the softârock scene of the 1970s. After founding the band Fat Chance while a student at Boise State University, he was signed by RCA Records at ageâ¯19 and released one album with the group before embarking on a solo career. Ater the release of his solo debut Promised Land in 1975, the single "This Night Wonât Last Forever", appeared on his 1978 album of the same name, reached number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later covered by Michael Johnson, whose version reached the topâ¯20 on the pop charts in 1979; the song was also revived by country acts such as Sawyerâ¯Brown in the 1990s. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s he released a string of studio albums-including Bill LaBounty (1982) and The Right Direction (1991)-mostly under Warner Bros. Records, and found radio airplay with singles such as "Never Gonna Look Back" and "Livin' It Up " in 1982. In 2001 Bill LaBounty signed a songwriting contract with Curb Publishing, and many of his compositions have been recorded by artists ranging from Jimmy Buffett and Patti LaBelle to Tim McGraw and The Temptations, earning him twentyâfive BMI awards. A collaboration with French musicians inspired the 2026 album Love At the End of the World, featuring Natasha St-Pier on his cult favorite "Livin' It Up."
