Biography

Bikram Singh is an American bhangra musician born in 1980 in Punjab. He emigrated to Queens, New York, at the age of 12 and entered the local music scene by performing at an open mic night in Greenwich Village. Singh began his recording career by collaborating with DJ Navdeep on the underground track “Aa Gayee”. In 2003, he performed alongside Panjabi MC at the Summerjam festival. He released the mixtape Exclusives (2003) and achieved professional recognition with his debut studio album, American Jugni (2005). The record reached the top of the BBC Asian Bhangra charts, and the track “Kawan” (2005) was named track of the year by BBC radio. Singh collaborated with Wyclef Jean on the track “Basement Bhangra Anthem” (2007) and performed on Das Racist’s “Punjabi Song” (2011). His discography includes the studio albums Tip Top (2008) and BIK I AM (2011). He performs with a band consisting of traditional Indian and western instruments and has toured across Europe, North America, and Asia.
