Biography
John Marshall âBig Johnâ Greer was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on 21â¯Novemberâ¯1923. A tenor saxophonist and vocalist, he joined Lucky Millinderâs band after Henry Glover recommended him to replace Bullâ¯Mooreâ¯Jackson in 1948. Greerâs single, "Got You on My Mind", was recorded in Octoberâ¯1951 and became his biggest hit. He moved to Groove Records in 1953, releasing "We Wanna See Santa Claus Do the Mambo" in 1954, and later signed with King Records in 1956, recording a handful of tracks. Greer died in Hot Springs on 12â¯Mayâ¯1972.
