Biography
Bell X1 is an Irish rock band formed in County Kildare in 1999, originally comprising Paul Noonan, David Geraghty and Dominic Phillips. The group emerged from the earlier band Juniper, adopting the name Bell X1 after Paul Noonan read Tom Wolfeâs The Right Stuff. Their debut album, Neither Am I, was released on 13 October 2000, followed by Music in Mouth in 2003, which achieved double platinum status in Ireland and produced singles such as "Snakes & Snakes" and "White Water Song". In 2005, Flock entered the Irish charts at Number 1 and sold fiveâtimes platinum, with tracks like "Bigger Than Me" and "Rocky Took a Lover" becoming radio staples. After parting with Island Records in 2007, Bell X1 released Blue Lights on the Runway independently in 2009; the single "The Great Defector" peaked at number 3 in Ireland and entered U.S. AAA charts. Subsequent albums Bloodless Coup (2011), Chop Chop (2013) and Arms (2016) each reached the top five on the Irish album chart, with Chop Chop receiving a 76/100 Metacritic score and Arms earning an 81/100. The band has toured extensively across Europe, the United States and Australia, supported acts such as U2 and Ed Sheeran, and earned multiple nominations for the Choice Music Prize.
