Biography

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 17, 1943, Barry Alan Pincus (aka Barry Manilow) is a key composer, songwriter and singer of international variety and American pop in the 1970s. Among the many hits in his repertoire are "Mandy", "I Write the Songs", "Could It Be Magic" (covered by Donna Summer in disco style and Alain Chamfort under theFrench title"Le Temps qui court"), " Looks Like We Made It" and many others. The man who sold almost three hundred million albums also saw five of them chart simultaneously on the Billboard 200 in 1978. His albumsBarry Manilow II (1974), Tryin' to Get the Feeling (1975), This One's for You (1976), Barry Manilow (1989), Thumbelina (1994), Here at the Mayflower (2001) and 15 Minutes (2011) testify to his continued presence at the highest level. Inspired by great crooners such as Frank Sinatra and Mel Tormé, Barry Manilow's discography includes a multitude of compilations, including the disco hit "Copacabana " (1978). In 2014, the album My Dream Duets saw him virtually singing with Louis Armstrong, Whitney Houston, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., Dusty Springfield, Mama Cass Elliott, Andy Williams and others. The singer, who came out of the closet in 2017, released the album This Is My Town: Songs of New York that same year, followed three years later by Night Songs II. Following the sale of his song catalog to the Hipgnosis Songs Fund in 2020 and a residency at the London Palladium in 2024, Barry Manilow returned in 2026 with the album What a Time.
