Biography

Barbara Dennerlein, born September 25, 1964, in Munich, Germany, is a German organist and jazz musician. At age 11, she received an electronic organ as a gift and began lessons from Paul Greisl. At 15, she had her first professional engagement in a jazz club. Dennerlein's early breakthrough came with the release of Jazz Live Auf Der Böhm (1983) and Orgelspiele (1984). Her third album, Bebab, released in 1985 on her own label Bebab, won the German Record Critics' Award. In the mid-1990s, Dennerlein's international presence solidified with albums released on Verve Records, featuring musicians like Ray Anderson and Randy Brecker. Notable subsequent works include Take Off! (1995), Junkanoo (1997), and Outhipped (1999). She has also explored jazz on the church organ, releasing Spiritual Movement No. 1 in 2002.
