Biography

Bakufu-Slump, a Japanese rock band, made a significant impact in the music scene from its formation in 1981 until its hiatus in 1999. The members were Sunplaza Nakano, Papala Kawai, Funky Sueyoshi, and BarbeQ Wasada. Known for their theatrical performances and comedic approach, the band gained fame for their eccentric live shows which included unusual antics such as dowsing the audience with fire extinguishers and throwing watermelons. Their rise to fame was cemented with their hit single "Runner" released in 1988, which became a long-standing favorite, particularly noted for its popularity in karaoke and among sports teams. Throughout their active years, they experienced changes in lineup and shifts in musical direction, exploring various themes and styles. Their collaboration with other artists and participation in major music festivals and television shows further solidified their status in the Japanese rock landscape. After nearly two decades of music, laughter, and wild performances, Bakufu-Slump ended their journey in 1999, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and entertainment in Japan's rock music history. After a hiatus, they reformed several times. Their track "Ikigai"(2024) along with other hits, showcases their unique style and the diverse influences that shaped their music.
