Ayumi Tanaka, born on March 9, 1986 in Wakayama, Japan, is a pianist and composer known for her work in creative jazz. She began her musical education at the Yamaha Music School at age three and won first prize at the Yamaha Junior Electone Competition in 2000. Tanaka studied educational sciences at Wakayama University before moving to Oslo in 2011 to pursue studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She formed the Ayumi Tanaka Trio, releasing the album Memento in 2016 and collaborated with various artists including Thomas Strønen and Marthe Lea on the album Bayou, released in 2021. Additionally, Tanaka is active as a music educator, conducting workshops for children at events like the Oslo Jazz Festival.
