Ãursaflokkurinn, an Icelandic progressive rock band, was formed in ReykjavÃk in 1978, consisting of Egill Ãlafsson on vocals, keyboard, and acoustic guitar; Ãórður Arnason on guitar; Rúnar Vilbergsson on fagott; Tómas Tómasson on bass; and Ãsgeir Ãskarsson on drums. Their debut album, Hinn Ãslenzki Ãursaflokkur (1978), showcased traditional Icelandic folk songs with rock and progressive elements. The band's second album, Ãursabit (1979), introduced keyboardist Karl Sighvatsson and highlighted keyboards and Hammond organ. In 1982, their fourth album, Gæti eins verið..., shifted towards pop, new wave, and rock music with increased use of synthesizers. The band played its last concert in 1984 but reunited periodically for performances and released Ãkomin forneskjan in 2008.
