Biography
Augusto Algueró Dasca was a Spanish composer, arranger, and orchestra conductor. He studied at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory and began his musical career in the 1950s. He composed many widely popular songs in Spanish music, including âPenélope,â âTe quiero, te quiero,â and âOla, ola, ola,â among others. His works were performed by artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat (who included âPenélopeâ in his repertoire), Conchita Bautista, Nino Bravo, RocÃo Dúrcal, and Concha Velasco. He also composed music for film and television productions. As a composer and conductor, he participated in international song festivals including Eurovision. He composed âEstando contigo,â which represented Spain in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, and collaborated on âAmanece,â performed in 1972. He also composed âDudando, dudando,â which won the popular vote at the 1980 Viña del Mar International Song Festival. His composition âPenélopeâ received a BMI award in 1998 for being one of the most performed songs in Latin music. Dasca died on January 16, 2011, in Torremolinos, Málaga.
