Alexander âAspâ Spreng was born on 19â¯Marchâ¯1972 in Germany and founded the band ASP in 1999 with guitarist Matthias Ambré. After early demo recordings in a rented apartment, the duo attracted the attention of Trisol, who signed them and released their debut album Hastâ¯Duâ¯michâ¯vermisst? in 2000. The single "Wer sonst?" followed in 2009, marking the bandâs first charting release. ASP continued to issue concept albums such as Duett (2001), Weltunter (2003), and Ausâ¯derâ¯Tiefe (2005), while expanding their lineup with drummer Oliverâ¯Himmighoffen and bassist Andreasâ¯Gross. The band toured extensively across Europe, performing at festivals like WaveâGotikâTreffen and Mâera Luna, and collaborated with artists such as LâÃmeâ¯Immortelle and Chamber. In 2011, ASP released Fremd after the departure of guitarist Ambré, and later albums Verfallenâ¯ââ¯Folgeâ¯1:â¯Astoria (2015) and Zutiefst (2017) continued the narrative style that defined their work. ASPâs releases earned positions in the German Topâ¯40, and the band received recognition within the gothic and metal scenes for their literary approach. The group remained active until 2021, when bassist Andreasâ¯Gross left.
