Biography

After studying philosophy in Reading and hanging out in France, Arthur Brown formed his first band, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, in 1967. The following year, the whole world discovered a sort of shaggy, disguised wizard, screaming Screamin' Jay Hawkins-style throughout a hit that was to prove long-lasting: "Fire"... one of the anthems of the beautiful month of May '68. The albums he went on to record as a solo artist were a far cry from his early exploits. After a notable appearance in Ken Russell's film Tommy, Arthur Brown moved to Austin, Texas, where he worked as a carpenter and decorator.
