Apollo 440, a British electronic dance music band formed in 1990 in Liverpool, was founded by brothers Trevor Gray and Howard Gray alongside Noko (Norman FisherâJones) and James Gardner. The group emerged from the local underground scene, combining breakbeat, rock, and ambient textures. Their breakthrough came with the 1994 single "Liquid Cool", which garnered club play and led to a contract with Stealth Sonic Recordings, a subsidiary of Epic Records. In 1995 they released their debut album Millennium Fever, followed by Electro Glide in Blue (1997) and Gettin' High on Your Own Supply (1999); the latter featured the hit single "Stop the Rock", which entered the UK Top 40 and was later used in several video games and films. The 2003 release Dude Descending a Staircase expanded their audience, while A Deeper Dub (2011) and The Future's What It Used to Be (2012) demonstrated continued evolution. Apollo 440 has produced remixes for U2, P.â¯Diddy, and JeanâMichel Jarre, and collaborated with vocalists such as Mary Byker and Ewan MacFarlane. Their music has appeared in highâprofile media, including the FIFA 2000 soundtrack and the SpiderâMan film series, cementing their status as a persistent presence in electronic and pop culture since the midâ1990s.
