Biography

Armando Francisco Punturero, known professionally as Armando Pontier, and born on August 29, 1917, in Zárate, Argentina, was a tando musician, composer, and bandoneon player. He began his career playing in various orchestras from a young age. In September 1945, he debuted with an orchestra co-directed by Enrique Mario Francini at the Tango Bar. This collaboration lasted ten years until Pontier launched his own orchestra in 1955, featuring notable musicians such as Julio Sosa and Roberto Florio. Throughout the 1960s, Pontier's orchestra performed extensively on Radio Belgrano and at the Centro Asturiano during carnival seasons. In 1963, he joined the reconstruction of La Orquesta de las Estrellas directed by Miguel Caló. Notable compositions include "Pecado" (co-written with Enrique Mario Francini) and "Milongueando en el '40." Pontier's work was also featured in the 1964 film La diosa impura. On December 25, 1983, Armando Pontier passed away.
