Biography
Arion Baroque Orchestra, founded in 1981 as Arion Ensemble in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is a Canadian baroque orchestra. The original quartet included Claire Guimond, Chantal Rémillard, Hank Knox, and Betsy MacMillan. By the mid-1990s, the ensemble expanded into a full orchestra specializing in 18th-century music performed on period instruments. Under the artistic direction of Claire Guimond until 2019, Arion collaborated with notable musicians such as Suzie LeBlanc and Karina Gauvin. The orchestra has performed extensively across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Europe, with a residency at Bourgie Hall of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Arion Baroque Orchestra received numerous awards, including nine Prix Opus, two Félix Awards, one Juno Award, and one Diapason d'Or. Their discography also comprised over 30 titles on labels such as early-music.com, ATMA Classique, Analekta, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, including "Bach - Orchestral Suites" (2001) and "Telemann - Concertos and Overture" (2020).
