Real name Alejandra Ghersi RodrÃguez, Arca is a Venezuelan artist born in Caracas on October 14, 1989. Musician, producer, DJ and performer, she is recognized for her avant-garde approach to electronic music and her exploration of gender identities. She began her career under the name Nuuro in an alternative pop style, and continued her studies at the Clive Davis Institute in New York, before opting for the pseudonym Arca. Her first two glitch EPs Stretch 1 and Stretch 2 attracted attention in 2012, and collaborations followed, with Kanye West and FKA Twigs, before the release of her experimental debut album Xen (2014), followed by Mutant (2015). Invited by Björk on her Vulnicura and Utopia opuses, Arca signed with the XL Recordings label and continued her sonic quest with a homonymous album released in 2017, breaking away from her previous output and exploring other avenues in the electronic avant-garde. The musician, who also performs at The Shed cultural center in New York, begins work on a five-part cycle, Kick i - Kick iiiii, to be released between June 2020 and December 2021. Nominated for a Grammy Award in the meantime, the artist releases the singles "Queer" (2021), "Cayo" (2022) and "Ritual " (2023), before collaborating with Dominican rapper Tokischa on "Chama" in 2024.
