Biography

Apulanta are a Finnish metal rock band formed in 1991 by singer and guitarist Toni Wirtanen, drummer Simo 'Sipe' Santapukki and singer and bassist Antti Lautala, who left in 1994. Bassist Ville Mäkinen joined in 2014. They made their recording debut in 1994 with the album 'Attack of the A.L. People' followed by 'Ehjä' which went to number four on the Finland Albums Chart in 1996. Subsequent releases 'Kolme' (1997), 'Aivan Kuin Kaikki Muutkin' (1998), 'Plastik' (2000), 'Heinola 10' (2001, 'Hiekka' (2002), 'Kiila' (2005) and 'Eikä Vielä Ole Edes Ilta' (2008) all topped the Finland Albums Chart. Compilation releases 'Singlet 1993-1997' (1998), 'Singlet 1998-2003' (2003) and 'Singlet 2004-2009' (2010) also topped the chart. Many singles have reached number one on the Finland Singles Chart including 'Anna Mulle Pilskaa' (1996), 'Teit Meistä Kauniin' (1998), 'Kadut' (2001), 'Jumala' (2003), 'Mercy' (2005) 'Ravistettava Ennen Käyttöä' (2009) and 'Pihtiote' (2011). Their 2019 release 'Lokin Päällä Lokki' went to number 15 on the Finland Singles Chart upon its release in 2019.
