Anton Goosen, born 5 March 1946 in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, South Africa, is a singer and songwriter. Despite academic challenges where teachers considered placing him in a special class, and his expulsion from boarding school at 17, Goosen formed his high school's first rock band that year. He began writing songs for other artists, notably Sonja Herholdt. In 1979, Goosen released his debut album Boy Van Die Suburbs, the first Afrikaans-language album of his own works, which sold over 80,000 copies. He wrote music for films such as 'n Brief vir Simone (1980) and composed theme music for TV series like Trompie (1980). Goosen's notable albums include Danzer (1992), Riviersonderend - 21 Greatest Hits (1994), and Putonnerwater (1999). His contributions earned him the title "father of Afrikaans Rock."
