Anabela Braz Pires, known mononymously as Anabela, and born on September 22, 1976, in Almada, Portugal, is a singer. She began her singing career at age eight and won the Grande Noite do Fado competition in 1989. In 1993, she represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest with "A cidade (até ser dia)", placing tenth. Her debut album Anabela was released in 1991 on Ovação fado music label. She continued her solo career with albums such as Encanto (1992), Primeiras Ãguas (1996) and Origens (1999). Anabela also collaborated with Carlos Núñez on his album Mayo Longo (2000). In addition to her music career, she is known for her work in musical theatre.
