Alexandre Desplat, born in Paris on August 23, 1961, studied classical music in France and the United States. He first gained recognition for his work with Jacques Audiard since their collaboration on Regarde les hommes tomber, before going on to compose soundtracks for big-budget films. Syriana (2005), The Queen (2006) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) all owe their musical ambience to him. Winner of numerous international awards, Alexandre Desplat delivered scores for Twilight (Chapter II: Temptation) and Un Prophète in 2009, followed by The Ghost Writer and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2010. He won awards at various competitions (Oscars, Césars, Grammy Awards, Golden Globes) with his compositions for Argo and De rouille et d'os in 2012. The same year, Zero Dark Thirty is further proof of his ability to adapt to any scenario. This tireless composer, always on the go, went on to score Philomena (Stephen Frears), The Furry Venus (Roman Polanski), The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson) and, in 2014, The Monuments Men (George Clooney), Unbroken (Angelina Jolie) and The Imitation Game. In 2015, he won the Oscar for Best Film Score for The Grand Budapest Hotel, and scored Suffragette (Sarah Gavron), The Danish Girl (Tom Hooper) and Every Thing Will Be Fine (Wim Wenders). The following year, he accompanied Ewan McGregor in his first film as director, signing the soundtrack forAmerican Pastoral. In 2018, the composer won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for The Shape of Water. He went on to score The Sisters Brothers (2018), The Midnight Sky (2020), The French Dispatch (2021), Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio (2022), Jurassic World Rebirth (2022), The Shrinking Man (2025) and Frankenstein (2025). In 2025, he also performs his greatest film hits with the Orchestre de Paris, which he conducts for the album Paris - Hollywood.
