Biography

Alexandra Soumm is a French violinist who was born in 1989 in the RSFS de Russie. She began her violin studies at age five and gave her first concert in Ukraine at age seven. Soumm studied at the Conservatoire de Vienne and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz under Boris Kuschnir. In 2002, she received the Grand Prix du Conservatoire de Vienne, leading to a soloist appearance at the Konzerthaus Vienna. Soumm won first prize at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Lucerne in 2004. Her career includes collaborations with the Orchestre national de Russie, the Israel Philharmonic, and the Orchestre de Paris. After being named a BBC New Generation Artist for the 2010–2011 season, she worked with the majority of the BBC orchestras in the United Kingdom. Her recordings include concertos by Paganini and Bruch (2008) and the album Grieg - The Violin Sonatas (2010). In 2012, Soumm received the London Music Masters Award.
