Amy Jane Studt, born on March 22, 1986, in London, is a British singer-songwriter. Raised in Bournemouth, Dorset, she began writing music at age six and taught herself piano, guitar, and oboe. At 12, Studt contracted osteomyelitis, which left her bedridden but allowed her to focus on her musical pursuits. By 14, she had recorded two demo albums with the guidance of her father, a violinist and conductor, leading to her signing with Polydor Records. Studt's debut single "Just a Little Girl" was released in July 2002, peaking at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. Her second single "Misfit" reached number 6, followed by her debut album False Smiles, which sold over 260,000 copies and was certified Gold. Additional singles from the album included "Under the Thumb" and a cover of Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do". In early 2004, Studt was dropped by Polydor due to diminishing sales. In 2007, Studt signed with 19 Entertainment and released her second album My Paper Made Men, preceded by the singles "Furniture" and "Chasing the Light". She moved to New York City in early 2009 and took a hiatus from music until 2017. After overcoming several mental health issues, Studt released her third album Happiest Girl in the Universe in October 2019.
