Alexander Abreu Manresa, born on September 6, 1976 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, was a Cuban trumpeter, composer, arranger, and singer. A graduate of Havana's National School of Art, he later taught trumpet at the same institution and became a professor of jazz and Cuban music at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. In 2007, Abreu formed Havana DâPrimera, featuring musicians from prominent timba ensembles. Their debut album, Haciendo Historias, topped the Cuban charts in 2009, and the group toured Europe later that year. Abreu has appeared on numerous recordings, including La Rumba Soy Yo, which won a Latin Grammy Award in 2001.
