Biography

Alex Konadu was a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and guitarist who was born in Adwumakase Kese, Ghana, in 1948. He started his musical career performing with groups like the Kantamanto Bosco Group, the Kwabena Akwaboah, and the Happy Brothers Band. His breakthrough came when record producer A. K. Brobbey signed him, leading to the formation of a band focused on uptempo Highlife guitar music. Konadu released several notable albums, including Awoo Ne Awo (1977) and the song "Asaase Asa" from the album Asaase Asa (1976). His song "Asaase Asa" became a cultural milestone, often played at Ghanaian funerals due to its poignant lyrics about a man losing his wife and sister. Konadu's nickname "One Man Thousand" reflected his ability to draw large crowds. He continued to release albums such as Abokyi (1977), Nkrabea (1980), and One Man Thousand Live in London (1988). Konadu died on January 18, 2011, in Kumasi.
