Silver was an American country rock band formed in the 1970s. The group consisted of John Batdorf on lead vocals and guitar, Brent Mydland on keyboards and vocals, Tom Leadon on bass guitar and vocals, Greg Collier on guitar and vocals, and Harry Stinson on drums and percussion. Silver gained prominence with their 1976 pop hit "Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang", written by country songwriter Rick Giles. The song peaked at Number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1976 and was ranked as the 70th biggest hit of that year. The band's only album, Silver, was released in May 1976 under the Arista record label, with cover art designed by Phil Hartman. Following the success of "Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang", Arista released two more singles by Silver: "Musician (It's Not an Easy Life)" and "Memory". The band disbanded in 1978. Brent Mydland later joined the Grateful Dead in 1979, becoming their longest-tenured keyboardist until his death in 1990. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Grateful Dead in 1994. Tom Leadon rejoined Mudcrutch when that band reunited in 2007. Harry Stinson became a country session musician and was part of Steve Earle's backing band The Dukes in the mid-1980s. Silver's music continues to be recognized, with "Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang" featured on the soundtrack of the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
