Ahmad Zahir, born Ahmad Zahir on June 14, 1946 in Kabul, Afghanistan, was an Afghan singer, songwriter, and composer. He formed "the amateur band of Habibia High School" during his high school years and gained popularity as a talented singer with a soulful voice. His first recorded song "Gar Kuni Yak Nizara" blended Indian raga with western pop rhythms. Zahir worked closely with composers such as Nainawaz and Taranasaz, releasing over 22 albums in the 1970s. Notable songs include "Tanha Shodam Tanha", which sparked controversy regarding its relation to Claude Morgan's song "El Bimbo". His music blended folk music, Persian literature, Indian classical music and Western pop and rock styles. He died on June 14, 1979. Posthumously, Zahir's influence has been recognized through various compilations such as Hip 70's Afghan Beats! (2011) and Volume 2: Afghan 70s Psychedelic Folk-Pop (2012).
