Yoruba Andabo, a Cuban rumba ensemble, was founded in 1981 by conga drummer Pancho Quinto. The group evolved from an amateur ensemble known as Guaguancó MarÃtimo Portuario, established in 1961 in the docks of Havana. Yoruba Andabo gained prominence throughout the 1980s and achieved international recognition after collaborating with Jane Bunnett on her album Spirits of Havana, recorded in 1991 and released in 1992. In 1995, they recorded Aché IV with Merceditas Valdés and their debut album, El callejón de los rumberos (1993), was released in North America in 1996. Pancho Quinto left the group around 1997 to pursue a solo career and continued collaborating with various artists until his death in 2005. Yoruba Andabo continued performing and released several albums, including Rumba en La Habana con... (2006), El espÃritu de la rumba (2015) and Soy de la tierra brava (2017).
