Biography

Yolanda Rosa Monge Betancourt, known professionally as Yolandita Monge, is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer and actress born on September 16, 1955, in Trujillo Alto. She began her career in 1966 by winning a radio contest and released her debut studio album, Puerto Rico's Poignant... Powerful... Incomparable... in 1969. The recording featured the tracks “El Estornudo” and “Vida”. Following her 1975 single “Cierra los ojos”, Monge signed with CBS Records International in 1980 and released the albums Fantasia and Historia de Amour. Her 1985 release, Luz de luna, earned a gold record, making her the first Puerto Rican female artist to receive the certification. The 1987 follow-up, Laberinto de amor, received a Grammy Award nomination. Monge established sales records at the Centro de Bellas Artes with her 1990 album Portfolio and starred in the 1989 telenovela Ave de paso. She released the album Mala in 2008 and remained active with the 2020 show Por ti.
