Yao Su-jung (born December 5, 1945) was a Taiwanese Mandarin pop singer from Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Known as the âQueen of Tears,â Yao won first prize in a singing competition organized by Cheng Sheng Radio in 1966. Assisted by teacher Wong Cing-si, Yao signed with the Haishan Record Company and released the debut album Yao Su Yong's Highlight / A Go Go in 1967. Yao recorded the theme song for the film Not Coming Home Tonight (1967), which combined modern and traditional musical elements. She collaborated with composer Charles Tso on several recordings, including âFaithless Personâ and âLike Mist and Flowersâ. Her interpretation of âThe One I Missâ (1967) established her unique "Yao School" singing style. After performing at the 30th Golden Horse Awards in 1993, Yao retired from public life and moved to Kuala Lumpur. She appeared in a live broadcast program in 2020 and 2021.
