Willem Frederik Christiaan Dieben, known professionally as Willy Derby, was born on April 5, 1886, in The Hague, Netherlands. He started his music career after working as a singing waiter. In 1915, he began performing with his brother Lou Bandy under the name The Bandy Brothers. Soon after, Willy Derby embarked on a solo career, releasing singles such as "K-k-k-keetje / Aan het strand" (1919) and "De visscherman / Vader" (1919). He gained popularity in the 1920s and 1930s with sentimental songs such as "Twee oogen zo blauw / Het plekje bij den molen" (1935). He continued to perform until his death on April 9, 1944.
