Biography

Born on 7 March 1987 in London, Will Varley is a British folk singer-songwriter and storyteller whose music blends wry humour, political insight, and raw emotional honesty. Emerging from the grassroots folk scene of the UK, he first made his mark by busking and walking entire tours on foot, building a dedicated following with his heartfelt songwriting and captivating live shows. Since releasing his debut album Advert Soundtracks in 2011, he has gone on to release several critically acclaimed records, including Postcards from Ursa Minor (2015) and Kingsdown Sundown (2016), earning support from the likes of Frank Turner and Billy Bragg, and sharing stages with artists like Valerie June and The Proclaimers. Drawing comparisons to Bob Dylan and Billy Bragg, Will Varley is known for his rich lyrical craftsmanship, moving seamlessly between the deeply personal and the powerfully political. Whether he’s singing about love, loss, war, or the absurdities of modern life, his songs resonate with authenticity and wit. He has continued to sharpen his toolkit on albums such as 2021's The Hole Around My Head and 2025's Machines Will Never Learn To Make Mistakes Like Me.
